Why does frost form in a freezer?
Frost in a freezer cannot be avoided and forms when you open and close the freezer door. It occurs because the warm air from the room gets trapped inside the freezer and freezes due to the water content in the air. Warm air from the room contains more moisture than cold air, which is why more frost can form during the summer months when it is very hot.
The best way to avoid excessive frost in your freezer is to be quick when either placing items inside or taking them out of your freezer.
If frost forms unusually quickly in your freezer, it is a good idea to check if the rubber seal is damaged. A defective rubber seal can cause the door not to close properly, allowing air to enter the freezer. If the door does not seal properly, the freezer will use extra energy to cool down the warm air – and this will be reflected on your electricity bill.
