How often should you defrost the freezer?

If you don’t have a self-defrosting freezer (typically labeled as 'NoFrost' or fully automatic defrosting), it is a good idea to defrost it 1-2 times a year. Another rule of thumb is to check the thickness of the frost. Your freezer should be defrosted if the frost is over 5 mm thick.
